Bolero

What is Bolero?

Inspired by Maurice Ravel’s iconic score, Bolero incorporates a cast of 50 community members and dancers into a tableau and celebration of a specific region. Bolero is the centerpiece of K+C’s community outreach efforts and a collaborative process allows participants to explore their own creativity and physicality, while capturing the uniqueness of each locale.

In 2007, K+C premiered Bolero ADF at the American Dance Festival and Bolero NYC, co-choreographed by Nicole Wolcott, at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Based on the success of those projects, K+C has since created Boleros across the country from Akron to Chicago to Santa Barbara, engaging more than 700 community cast participants nationwide.
